  • `94 3.4L Camaro Start-up problem......(Update - FIXED)

    Ok,
Here are the following things that was check on the car:

    Battery Water Level: ok
    Battery: ok
    Alternator: ok
Security light: Turns on then turns off the way it should; ok
    Fuses: ok

Everything seems to be fine but the damn car won't crank at all. When I turn the key, absolutely nothing happens. I have however, been messing with the part that is located right next to the fuse box inside the hood of the car, to the left. It looks like a bunch of metal parts distributing the electricity??

Anyway, last week, this thing was making like air sounds. It sounded like the intake was sucking in air at start-up, but it wasn't the intake, it was that metal piece which all the electrical stuff goes to.

Any suggestions? And if someone knows what part in the car I am talking about, what is it called and can I get an aftermarket one and not go through the dealer. Thanks....

Have you checked you're starter? It's not on you're checklist. Get it tested see if it's good or not.

I'm having the exact same problem right now with my 94 3.4L Firebird. This bunch of metal parts distributing electricity you're talking about I'm thinking is actually your part of the brake system... that's what's next to my fuse box anyway. Maybe the camaro is different. Back to the problem though... I think it's my ICM that's causing the problem. I had it removed at one point to test it and after I installed it again teh car actually started to turnover but wouldn't start. After trying to turn it a couple of times all of a sudden it stopped again. I'm expecting a replacement ICM either this week or next week sometime at the latest so if you can hold out that long I'll let you know if it fixes the problem and it might save you some money by not going out and buying parts that dont need to be replaced. I'll let you know as soon as I get it installed.

since the 94 3.4's have teh little chip or whatever in the key...ever thought it may be the key? had a start-up problem with mine as well and guy told me to use the other key or have another made and i really haven't had the problem since. just a thought.

It was the starter, stupid me. A mechanic hit the stater with a hammer for the soleniods to connect temporarily, and the car started, but with a huge hesitation.

Changed the starter, car is happy, I'm happy, for now....

Interesting... I'll have to give mine a tap just to see what happens. The reason I blamed the ICM was because before I had the starting problem I was also having running problems which I first thought was a bad crank sensor. Since then I noticed my cam sensor had bad wiring and replaced that so maybe that was my running problem and coincidentally my starter solenoid started sticking too.
